D'Annunzio Hermitage

The D'Annunzio Hermitage (also called Hermitage of San Vito) is a farmhouse (used as a hermitage) built on a promontory located in the district of Portelle in San Vito Chietino, where Gabriele d'Annunzio resided in the summer of 1889. The area, as well as the promontory itself and the coast below, is called the D'Annunzio promontory. Not far away you can visit the Trabocco Turchino and the homonymous beach. In this residence, the poet from Pescara stayed from 23 July to 22 September 1889 together with his lover Barbara Leoni (nicknamed the "beautiful Roman"). Here he found inspiration and setting for the Triumph of Death, the last of the so-called trilogy of the Romance of the Rose after pleasure and the innocent. In the text, it is at the foot of the promontory that the protagonists of the novel lose their lives.

Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere

The Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere is located in the town of Fossacesia, on a hill overlooking the Adriatic Sea at 107 m (above sea level). The monastic complex of San Giovanni in Venere consists of a basilica and a nearby monastery, both built at the beginning of the 13th century in place of the pre-existing small monastery. The location is very scenic: it is on a hill overlooking the nearby coast for several kilometers to the north and south. Since December 2014, the site has been managed by the Abruzzo Museum Complex.

Trabocco Turchino

The Trabocco of Punta Turchino is one of the most beautiful on the coast of San Vito, located in Portelle takes its name from its position, is in fact at a small ledge of the coast called Cape Turchino promontory. It is completely built on wooden palisations without foundations but fixed in equilibrium, sometimes with cable laying and fixing piles to the rock. Through a path on wooden boards from the shore you get to the fishing shed and the platform from which, through a complex system of tie rods and rocker arms, it is possible to immerse and withdraw fishing nets. This is the famous trabocco D'Annunzio talks about in his "Triumph of Death", and so describes the Vate "... at the extreme point of the right promontory, over a group of rocks, a Trabocco stretched out, a strange fishing machine, all composed of boards and beams, similar to a colossal spider ... ".

Belvedere "Guglielmo Marconi"

The most beautiful terrace on the Adriatic, at a glance the sea and the Majella and in the background the Gran Sasso. The walk that leads to the Belvedere winds through the flowers and colors of the ancient part of the country. It does not represent a place but a suggestion that of a soft touch of the horizon between sky and sea, transported by the breeze that comes from the mountains.

Lungomare "di Gualdo"

The seafront is no more than 300 meters long and there are two trabocchi / restaurants. It is a very pleasant walk strongly recommended at the sunset. The street is pedestrian and there are various restaurants where you can enjoy local food. During the summertime, there is evening entertainment and a flea market. Some swings and slides for children are places where the beach meets the sidewalk. During the day you can also enjoy the long sea/beach it's a sandy area with shallow water and suitable for children.

The Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano

The relics of the Eucharistic miracle. The Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano would have happened in the small town of Lanciano in the first half of the 8th century: while a priest was celebrating, at the time of the consecration, the host and wine would be transformed into flesh and blood. The relics of the phenomenon, the best known of its kind, are preserved inside the church of San Francesco, in the historic Borgo district.

Zoo of Abruzzo

The Abruzzo Zoo is a permanent wildlife exhibition with a pedestrian path that offers the opportunity for adults and children to experience a day in close contact with animals from all over the world. It is a family-run company born a few years ago as a simple experiment, which today makes use of a scientific staff composed of two veterinarians, a veterinary assistant and an etiology, to solve the problems that arise daily and to guarantee health and well-being to the host species. Thanks to the proposed educational activities it is possible to investigate issues concerning the protection and conservation of threatened species and obtain information or clarification on any doubts that may arise. The Abruzzo Zoo also has a mini-park, a bar and a self-service restaurant for visitors.
